We want to introduce restaurants, bars and other places that are not featured very much in the normal tourist publications. Trattoria Blair Marina (Italian) - Shiogama, Miyagi

The Trattoria Blair Marina is located in the Marine Gate Shiogama, a terminal for ferries going to the islands in Matsushima Bay, and also for sight-seeing boats. It has glass walls on two sides offering views of Shiogama harbour, and also a terrace where you can eat outside in the warmer months. They serve excellent pasta (the fresh variety) and pizza, and a variety of other Italian dishes, including meat and seafood dishes. The pizzas are made in a genuine Italian pizza oven. Prices are quite reasonable, considering the standard of the food. At lunchtime you can get a pasta dish, with salad, bread and drink for 980 yen. Or a pizza set for 1,050 yen. They also have very good cakes for dessert. The restaurant is spacious, and needs to be because it is quite popular. If you are going there for lunch on a Sunday try to get there before twelve. If you do you may be lucky enough to get a table by the window so you can enjoy the harbour views as you savour your lunch.

How to get there

By Train

Take a train to Shiogama on the Senseki Line. Follow the signs to Marine Gate. It is only about a ten minute walk from the station, by the harbour.

By Car

Marine Gate is located on Shiogama Harbour. Take Route 45 from Sendai (or take the Tobu Dohro and exit at Sendai Koh Kita), turn right at the lights at the exit (Route 45) and follow this to Shiogama. You will see signs to Marine Gate in Japanese and English.
