Playing Golf in Sendai

仙台でゴルフやる

You might think that playing golf in Japan is extremely expensive, but really that is no longer the case. Especially if you play on a week day it doesn't have to cost you a lot of money. Then of course there is problem of getting to the course, and getting hold of golf clubs. But there is one golf course in Sendai that you can reach by bus from Sendai Station in less than 30 minutes, and which rents out golf clubs. This is the Sendai Hills Golf Club in Nakayama. There are three 9 hole courses here, and you can nearly always get a game if you ring and book in the morning. Fees vary according to the day, but you can usually get a round for under 6,000 yen, including renting a golf cart. Clubs cost 3,150 to rent and shoes are 550 yen. The course is very beautiful with well kept fairways and greens. It is usually not all that crowded on weekdays, so you can play at your own pace. You can also play only nine holes if you wish for a slightly lower fee. This also varies according to the day. On a nice autumn day what could be nicer than a nice relaxing (or frustrating) round of golf?

How to Get There

By Bus
Take any of the following buses from bus stop 14 in the bus pool outside the Aoba Dohri side of Sendai Station - 815, 811,910,911.
Get off at the Sendai DaiKannon Mae bus stop. It is in front of a huge statue of the Japanese goddess Kannon so you can't miss it. Cross the road and the golf club house is to the right of the hotel you will see there.

By Car
The golf course is situated next to the Giant Kannon statue on the Kita Kanjo-sen, the major road that runs between Izumi and the Sendai Miyagi Interchange You can't miss the statue. There is also a large Jusco shopping center just across the road. From the Sendai Miyagi Interchange follow the signs to Izumi Chuo. The golf course is about a 10 minute drive from the interchange.
